JUST IN!

Yesterday afternoon, only a few hours after I had already posted the photos of "SPACE BUG," Mam came to me while I was lying on the bed watching T.V., hiding something in her hand.  She opened it up to reveal one of the largest Space Bugs I'd seen yet!

It seems she found this one eagerly eating the leaves of her freshly planted cucumber and she was not amused.  But, rather than smash this little bugger and send him/her into SPACE BUG heaven/hell, she caught it and brought it to me so I could take some more photos, since SPACE BUGS usually move quite fast.  This one, however, appeared somewhat subdued, allowing me some very nice photographs.

Hope you enjoyed these!

Well hello there little gal!  Talk about some serious antennae!  Or are those eyes?  Hummm, wish she could talk to me and tell me a little bit about herself.  Any bug this well equipped must be female!

She was really quite friendly and thoroughly enjoyed walking all over me.  You see!  I told you she was female!  Heh, heh.

I found this strange caterpillar like bug on the wall of our house, outside.  At first I thought it was a single weird bug from the previous picture of the "weird bug horde," but if you look closely and compare, the color pattern just isn’t right.

This horde of weird bugs was found on our sour-orange tree, just outside our front door.  They stuck around for a day and when I woke up the next morning they were gone.  Haven’t seen them since.

I call this odd little critter the “SPACE BUG.”  Truly one of the oddest bugs I’ve ever seen.  This isn’t really a very good picture, as it is difficult to take pictures of the Space Bug since it moves pretty fast.

I think it’s kinda like a Jetson’s version of the ladybug.  Its body is totally clear and underneath it’s clear, armor-like body you can see these vibrant copper and gold-flecked innards of sorts.  I've even seen some of these bugs with a shiny, emerald green, metalic color inside.

In my opinion this is the ultimate in truly weird.

This blog is all about some of the weird bugs Mam and I have discovered in and around our home.  Hardly a week passes by that I don’t hear, “Jim!  Come look!” and out comes the camera to record a new and often very strange bug.

I’m no entomologist.  I’ve just retained my childhood fascination with bugs.  So, if you’re perusing this site and you know something about bugs and specifically bug names, please leave a comment and let me know what their names are so I can look them up for more information.

As fascinated as Mam and I are with bugs, both of us have a healthy respect for their propensity to bite and inflict pain, exude some nasty or poisonous goo, spurt some foul smelling protective chemical, or in some cases kill humans.  I grew up in the desert Southwest of Texas, and came to learn about and respect many lethal bugs and spiders.

I hope you enjoy this site and I encourage you to leave comments and suggestions.  Now lets go get BUGGY!
